Chris Gethard has often found himself in awkward situations most people, including you, probably would have safely avoided. The good news is now, thanks to this book, you can enjoy the painfully funny consequences of his unfortunate decisions at a safe distance. A Bad Idea I'm About to Do invites listeners to join Chris as he navigates an adolescence and adulthood mired in hilariously ill-fated nerdom, and to take comfort in the fact that - as his experiences often prove - things could always be much, much worse.
A Bad Idea I'm About to Do True Tales of Seriously Poor Judgment and Stunningly Awkward Adventure (Audible Audio Edition) Chris Gethard Audible Studios Books
This book was an Amazon recommendation after I had finished Kelly Oxford's "Everything is Perfect When You're a Liar" on my Kindle so I bought it since it was only $10. I had never heard of Chris Gethard until then and I surprisingly found the book very funny and would definitely read more of his books if he ever decided to write more of them. Not to spoil it too much, every chapter in the book is funny, especially the herpes scare story.
Great writing. Funny. I bought one as a Christmas present for a friend.

A Bad Idea I'm About to Do True Tales of Seriously Poor Judgment and Stunningly Awkward Adventure (Audible Audio Edition) Chris Gethard Audible Studios Books Reviews
I have read A LOT of humor books (most very disappointing) and this rivals the funniest (hyperchondriac). While hyperchondriac is still funnier, Chris is so honest with his emotional downturns that it's more wholesome. Within 20 min, I managed to both cry and laugh into my pillow, shaking the bed at 2 in the morning. I think that everyone will relate to him - even if less extreme -at some point in their life. I'm pretty mad that it's over. I want him to write another book. Also, I have learned that I don't want a colonic.
I absolutely loved this book! It reminded me of Mike Birbiglia as well of Jack Kerouac only funnier and grammatically correct. I had never heard of Gethard I just truly judged this book by its e-cover when recommended it (s credibility has doubled for me). These stories are so funny, so sincere and well written I couldn't stop reading it. I'm now going to download the Wierd NY book because I miss having something incredibly funny to read!
Chris is an accomplished comedian and purveyor of weird strangeness. He walks between the real-world and the performance space in his daily life and often the two inter-twine. If you have ever approached a decision and thought "what's the worst that could happen?" and base your course of action using solely that metric then THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ.
Strange, eclectic and totally hilarious Chris weaves his real-life stories together as both a brave example and portent against the daily grind.
In writing this, Chris Gethard wrote a book that really understands the screwed-up kids of this world, I think. He wrote a book for me, to put into perspective everything I've been through and am currently going through. No matter the pain I may feel now, these are the times that are going to make me into the person I'm going to be. I don't know how well I would have understood that if it weren't for Gethard. And look at him now. He's alright. He's a good guy. Chris Gethard is a good guy. Maybe one day I can be a good guy, too, and maybe all of the family issues and the relationship issues and the mental health issues I'm living in spite of now will make me that.
Thanks for that, Geth.
And, I mean, it's also incredibly funny, and fairly well-written. It's easy to read, and it's wildly entertaining. For me it was more, but maybe not for everybody, you know? That's just me. I'm weird. I'm a loser.
Lose well.
I really enjoyed this book after nerding out on his podcast. It was a fun read and I heard he's in the works for another book and I'm excited for that one too!
If you're a fan of Chris, you're almost guaranteed to love this book. This book won't be for everyone; if you're more faint-hearted or are uncomfortable with discussion of mental illness, you might want to skip this one. But I personally laughed aloud several times as he traversed stories throughout his life that at times sounded absolutely insane, and related to him in meaningful ways. I couldn't put this book down.
Funny , honest reflection of his past. I was cracking up while reading just the prologue. Not all fun and games, though, when Chris talks about his mental health issues it was quite sobering. That was also an honest reflection and I thank him for his bravery in discussing the issue that in my opinion should be talked about more. Overall one of the funniest books I've read by any comedian.
